Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he's learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
