Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the negative comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn't a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
