Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn't a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he's picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
