Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
