Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
