Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't permit the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he's learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
