Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
