Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn't a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
