Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't allow the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn't a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He says that he's learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
