Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn't a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
