Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he's learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
