Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn't a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he's learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
