Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he's learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
