Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
