Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't permit the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he's picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
