Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
