Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn't a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
