Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
