Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he's learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
