Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn't permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
