Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't let the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he's picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
