Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
