Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he's learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
