Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he's learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
