Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
