Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. He says that he's learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
