Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He states that he's learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
