Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't let the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he's picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
