Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
