Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn't a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
