Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he's learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
