Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he's learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
