Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't let the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
