Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he's picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
