Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
